Got plans this weekend? There’s a festival to celebrate Indian cuisine and culture this Saturday that promises to draw thousands Downtown. But why stop there? The food is more diverse than you might think, and it already has a strong presence in Las Vegas.

🇮🇳 What is Indian Food All About?

Indian food is known for robust flavors, various spice levels, and creamy sauces. But India is a huge country with food that varies by region and draws influences from neighboring countries like China and Pakistan. Even the quintessential curry evolved after British rule. Indian food is extremely vegetarian friendly and lunch buffets are common.

😋 What are the Most Popular Dishes?

The popularity of dishes will vary between regions in India, but common favorites in the U.S. include chicken tikka masala and the slightly sweeter butter chicken, which are slathered in a tomato-based cream or yogurt sauce. Goat, lamb, and seafood are also popular, often served with biryani rice or vegetable recipes heavy on chickpeas, lentils, and potatoes. Bread is almost always on the side, baked in a circular tandoori oven. Lassi is a sweet, dense yogurt-based drink that’s sometimes mixed with fruit. Be warned — a little goes a long way.

🍽️ How to Celebrate Indian Food in Vegas

Timing is everything. The Indian Food & Cultural Festival (also known as Vaisakhi Mela) comes to the Clark County Government Center Amphitheatre this Saturday, April 12, from noon to 9 p.m. Expect to see a wide array of food, entertainment, shopping, and other activities.

🤔 Where Else Can I Eat Indian Food?

Las Vegas has its share of great Indian restaurants throughout the valley, most of which provide plenty of bang for your buck.

  • Taj Palace - Henderson favorite with possibly the best-known Indian lunch buffet in the valley
  • Clove - Contemporary dining room surrounded by art in Spring Valley
  • Naan & Curry - Local chain with modern dining rooms; a great introduction for first timers
  • Mt. Everest - Indian food with a Nepalese influence west of the Strip
  • Curry Pot - Open 24/7 at the Venetian food court
  • Tamba - Elevated take on Indian food in Town Square (and easily one of the best new restaurants in Vegas right now)
  • Rani’s - All-vegetarian service counter inside an Indian grocery store in the West Valley
  • The Divine Dosa - Strip restaurant with more than 30 dosas (Indian crepes), including a four-foot-long version 🤯
  • Lazeez - Indian with Pakistani and Mediterranean influences
  • Nutmeg - Known for subtle fusion-friendly touches in a modern Silverado Ranch setting
