The holiday weekend is over, but it’s never too soon to plan your next road trip. Williams, a small Arizona town billed as the gateway to Grand Canyon National Park, is now home to the Poozeum — a dinosaur poop museum — and it’s just a three-hour drive from Las Vegas 🦕
💩 What’s Inside?
The Poozeum is the largest collection of coprolites: fossilized dinosaur droppings that are millions of years old. They’re composed of phosphates, calcium, silicates, and organic matter, offering insight into the diets and behavior of prehistoric creatures. Highlights include “Barnum” (the largest coprolite discovered) and “Precious” (a piece that’s true to form thanks to a “soft landing.”)
💩 How Did This Come to Pass?
The Poozeum is a project 28 years in the making. Founder George Frandsen began collecting coprolites when he was an 18-year-old college student. He turned his passion for dinosaur poop into the Poozeum, a traveling exhibit that appeared at museums and science centers throughout the country before finding a permanent home in Williams.
💩 Worth Squeezing Into Your Schedule?
Admission and parking are free, which should be a welcome change of pace for Las Vegans. The museum is a place for learning, but also a lot of fun with a gift shop and art pieces, including “The Stinker” — a bronze statue of a contemplative T-Rex sitting on a toilet.
