Listen to our May 12 interview with Lynn Baird on the podcast.
Lynn Baird, a retired state employee, answers our questions below.
In April, City Cast Las Vegas invited all qualified mayoral candidates to respond to a questionnaire so that our readers could get to know them a little better. All candidates were sent the same questions, and given a 600 character-count limit. As you'll see, some questions are a little more policy-oriented and some are a little more fun!
Read the rest of the questionnaire responses here.
1. What is the single most pressing issue facing the City of Las Vegas? Why?
"Lack of good strong and moral foundational principles which is manifesting itself in disintegrating families, in poor education, higher crime, lack of caring for others, lack of respect for others, higher homelessness, etc."
2. Why is the Mayor of Las Vegas an important role for everyone living in the Valley?
"The challenges we face are not limited to Las Vegas. The Mayor of Las Vegas can set a positive example and take a lead role in the valley to help conquer those challenges."
3. Buskers at the Fremont Street Experience: yea or nay?
"Yes, as licensed contractors who report tips like food servers to ensure quality and safety."
4. Should the Tesla tunnels expand to the City of Las Vegas?
"Sounds like a lot of fun, but I feel a regular subway or other mass transit would be much more effective."
5. What’s your position on rent control?
"I tend to favor letting the market determine rates, yet wages are so low and housing prices are so high I would consider rent control to help the many who struggle to make ends meet."
6. Oscar Goodman has the martini glass. What would your mayoral trademark be?
"A key because I am trying to help unlock our potential. (Or a hiking staff because I love to hike.)"
7. What was Carolyn Goodman’s greatest accomplishment as mayor?
"Renewing downtown and constructing the Courtyard Homeless Shelter was a great accomplishment. Helping to support and utilize the efforts of interfaith groups to provide more effective services was another great accomplishment."
8. What’s the best meal you’ve ever had in Las Vegas?
"Aurelio’s pizza"
