😋 Asian cuisine has more to offer than dim sum and sushi. (Much more, actually.) When dining out on fascinating Far East food, make sure to save room for dessert. City Cast Las Vegas recently discussed how Asian desserts are different and where you can find them in Las Vegas. Here’s a sneak peek at some of our top favorites.
Yukimi Daifuku Mochi Ice Cream
Mochi is a rice dough that provides a chewy exterior when wrapped around ice cream. Yukimi Daifuku is a popular, quality brand that’s available at Asian grocery stores like Nakata Market, Japan Creek, or International Marketplace.
Injeolmi Rice Cakes
Forget everything you think you know about rice cakes. Injeolmi is a Korean version, also known as tteok, that’s made with rice flour similar to mochi for a unique texture. They’re sold at Koreana Rice Cake House in the food court inside Greenland Supermarket.
Bingsu
Bingsu is a Korean milk-based take on shaved ice that’s typically large enough to share. The dish is often topped with red bean paste, fruit, syrup, or even chestnuts, depending on the season. Sul & Beans in Shanghai Plaza is one of the best places to try the dessert.
Japanese Shortcake
Pullman Bakery is open 24/7 on Blue Diamond Road, selling a variety of baked goods. The Japanese shortcake is very different from the traditional American version, featuring a sponge-like, airy composition with cream and fresh strawberries.
Ube Swirled Babka
Ube is a staple of Filipino cuisine. The purple yam is often adapted for pastries like Ube Swirled Babka or sweet bread by Milkfish Bakeshop, a pop-up that earned founder Kimberly Mcintosh a James Beard nomination for Outstanding Pastry Chef in the Southwest.
That’s just the beginning. These and other desserts are discussed on today’s episode of City Cast Las Vegas, featuring an inspired conversation between co-host Sarah Lohman, executive producer Sonja Cho Swanson, and special guest, Yukino Aoshima, a local tea sommelier with an appreciation for Asian cuisine.
