Map of the Winchester neighborhood

There’s a lot to do in Winchester for such a small area. (Google Maps)

The Winchester neighborhood is smallish — sandwiched between Desert Inn and Sahara, between Boulder Highway and the Strip — but it contains multitudes. That’s partly thanks to Commercial Center at its northern edge and the Boulevard Mall on its southern. But there’s plenty of richness in between, too.

🍴 Grab A Bite

Reader Christian W. recommends Los Olivos Ristorante, “quite literally a ‘hole in the wall’-sized, family-run Italian restaurant. Amazing food and the kind of service that you only get from the owners.” With its “incredible rum selection, (and) amazing Polynesian-infused food,” The Starboard Tack is reader Alex R.’s jam. Vickie’s Diner, meanwhile, is a Vegas icon whose relocation a few years ago didn’t diminish its charm. And reader Terri Hughes praises the Mercado marketplace in the Boulevard Mall: “They have a great food court with some of the most authentic Mexican food I have found here.”

💃 Get Cultured

The county’s Winchester Dondero Cultural Center is a true community hub, with a brisk schedule of multicultural programming spanning genres: visual art, dance, music, theater, classes, and more — including a skate park. And Core Contemporary is a must stop for fans of contemporary visual art. For a different definition of culture, there’s Player 1 Video Game Bar. Good selection of beers on tap, too, we're told.

🎸 Rock and Eat

Red Dwarf serves Detroit-style pizza that routinely gets raves. Pretty good music venue, too — a great place to catch local bands, whether established (this Friday: The Unwieldies) or on their way up. Plus tons of ambiance if you just want to chill.
