Some feel the need for speed. Others feeI the need to read 📖 The only thing better than a good book is talking about it with somebody else who read it too. So put down the phone and make a date with one of our favorite book clubs in Las Vegas.

🍸 Tales and Cocktails

The Tales and Cocktails club meets every month at the Windmill Library to not only discuss books, but sip on themed cocktails inspired by them (as well as wine, beer, or soda). A $15 donation covers two drinks. The next meeting is Friday with more details about the club available on the event listing.

🎞️ Double Negative Book Club

Here’s a fun idea. The Writer’s Block hosts the Double Negative Book Club to discuss both books and their on-screen adaptations with screenings of the movie version taking place at the neighboring Beverly Theater.

  • The Writer’s Block is also home to other book clubs, including the Young Adult Book Club, Libros & Chisme (Latin American Voices) Book Club, Queer as B**k Book Club, and Bourbon Book Club (with a whiskey pairing 🥃 👀). The Writer’s Block is family-friendly too. So bring the kiddos (ages 3-7) to Sister Goose’s Story Time every Sunday afternoon.

🙅 Not-A-Book Club

The Goodsprings Library has the Not-A-Book Club, which focuses on novellas and short stories. This is good for those who have low-attention spans (me! ✋) or wait until the last minute to read something (me again! ✋). The club meets on the second Friday of every month (although the next one appears to be bumped to the third Friday this month) and if Goodsprings feels like too much of a drive, think of it as a great excuse to stop by the historic Pioneer Saloon.

🔥 Dope Lit Book Club

The Dope Lit Book Club meets once a month to celebrate works by authors of color. The club is run by Analog Dope, a small Afrocentric book and media shop in the Arts District, with an online portal for participants to connect and score a discount on the latest monthly title.

🔎 Mystery Book Club

Don’t be left in suspense. The Henderson Libraries system presents the Mystery Book Club on the second Tuesday of the month at the Paseo Verde Library. Can’t make it in person? The meetings are simulcast on Zoom.

  • Henderson Libraries also has five other book clubs to keep you busy, plus Book Club in a Bag kits, which include a guide and six paperbacks of the same title to help people organize their own book clubs.
