What Las Vegas's Talking About

☎️ A Polling Conundrum

Across multiple polls, the race for Nevada Governor between incumbent Republican Joe Lombardo and Democrat Aaron Ford is an apparent dead-heat. Also across multiple polls, Lombardo is not just a favorite but a shoe-in. What gives? [X, KLAS, The Nevada Independent]

  • Polling Nevada generally and Las Vegas specifically is historically difficult and expensive, on account of a population that just won’t stop moving and a sky-high number of nonpartisans. That means polls with wider margins of error and outlier polls skewed by sampling error, poor weighting or other bad methodology (i.e. the stuff of pollster’s nightmares). [Politico, Pew Research]
  • In a neutral environment, Lombardo’s campaign should be favored – especially because of structural reasons (being an incumbent, wider name recognition and an enormous fundraising advantage through super PACs). [Nevada Current]
  • But 2026 is … not a neutral environment. President Donald Trump’s signature policies – war with Iran, tariffs, and even AI data centers – has complicated the midterm election and created tougher pitches for Republicans nationwide, Lombardo among them. [The Nevada Independent, LA Times]
  • As always, polls are and always have been a snapshot in time. Proceed with caution as you cook up your dinner table election takes!

🤸 No More Backflips on Fremont Street

That’s after the Las Vegas City Council voted this week to shore up existing street performer rules on Fremont Street, in a move that also included banning fake fighting. The twist? Many street performers had asked for such changes – especially to the performing lottery process – after alleged bad actors had taken to illegally selling their spots under the Fremont canopy. [KLAS]

🍼 Nevada Lags Region on Childcare Access

A new report from UNLV found Southern Nevada’s congressional districts had between 66 and 75 percent of children living in “childcare deserts,” where the number of children exceeds licensed childcare providers by at least 3-to-1. Every Nevada district far exceeded the national average, and found Nevada ranked 50th in childcare availability and state investment. [Nevada Current]

💪 An Outdoor Exercise Revolution?

The city certainly thinks so, after announcing new outdoor gyms, not unlike playgrounds for adults. [KVVU]

  • The City Cast team dives deep on whether the outdoor exercise equipment is perfect for Vegas or doomed to fail in the heat – plus breaks down the race to build a Space Force academy and brings the good news to brighten up your weekend.

More Las Vegas Events

🍕 Look, is Little Caesars a chain? Yes. Do we all miss when the hot-and-ready’s were actually $5? Also yes. But a new location at 6081 South Eastern Avenue is doing a grand opening that includes a year of free pizza to the first 100 people in the door (after you buy crazy bread) at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

“Pizza pizza,” indeed.
