🚔 In the market for a new car?

Two men pose on the Strip in front of a black car that says "Highway Patrol" and "Chaser".

The Chaser … back when Fremont Street was cool. (Injured Police Officers Fund)

The Chaser is now up for auction. The 1986 Ford Mustang Pro Stock drag racer was modeled after a Nevada Highway Patrol cruiser — and was even driven by a lieutenant while competing on the track and teaching students about safety during school appearances.

The auction runs for two more days. All money raised from the sale benefits the Injured Police Officers Fund.

What Las Vegas's Talking About

🏘️ A New Master-Planned Community in the Northwest

Here’s the latest example of Las Vegas continuing to grow outwards. The BLM is selling 940 acres of federal land near Tule Springs to the City of Las Vegas for $94 million. It will be used for a new master-planned community with 6,000 homes. [KVVU]

  • Meanwhile, the cost of housing in the valley continues to creep up. Even an eastside mobile home park is hiking rents by nearly 25%. [KTNV]
  • The Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada is challenging the use of unelected hearing masters that determine evictions in the Las Vegas court system. [Nevada Independent]

⚡ Data Center Switches Direction

Switch, which already has an imposing data center presence in the Southwest Valley, continues to expand after buying nearly 550 additional acres in Southern Nevada over the past year or so. Most of it is in remote desert land near the Apex industrial complex north of Las Vegas — and far away from residential communities that might get angry about it. [Las Vegas Review-Journal]

🚨 Can Crime Go Down in Chinatown?

Clark County is hoping to improve security and reduce crime in Chinatown by directing more funds to businesses via the Spring Mountain Corridor grant program. Smash-and-grab theft remains a problem, especially for tourists who leave suitcases and other items visible in rental cars. [KVVU]

🎭 Entertainment Struggles in Vegas

Las Vegas is now officially a sports town. But is it still an entertainment town? 🤔 The sudden closures of “Awakening,” Cirque du Soleil’s “Mad Apple,” and even the 21-year run of “Menopause the Musical” suggest the Strip is entering a new era in how tourists are choosing to spend their dollars. City Cast Las Vegas welcomes Dayna Roselli and Sean McAllister of Vegas Revealed to to discuss the state of Las Vegas entertainment, including the decline of residencies and if the success of the Sphere is an outlier — or a monster that’s cannibalizing the competition.
