Far beyond the tourist enticements of the Strip, Las Vegas Boulevard just keeps heading south, through suburbia, past the edge of town, paralleling I-15, and bound for the open desert. It doesn’t stop until it reaches whatever’s left of Jean these days.
Still, despite its scarcity of Cirques du Soleil, Katy Perry residencies, and Martha Stewart-branded restaurants, this area isn’t entirely devoid of things to do. The fun out here just sometimes takes on a different character.
2️⃣ Places to Handle Weapons: The website for Combat Zone Paintball sure makes it look pretty hardcore, like you’d better know your Charlie Foxtrot from your Whiskey Tango. When shoot's about to get real, there’s a rudimentary firearms range in the hills farther south. Just be careful, and tell the Second Amendment hello from its friends at the First.
2️⃣ Places for Big Vehicular Fun: If your inner child still thrills to Tonka trucks, check out Dig This Vegas, where you can spend play time operating a backhoe, a bulldozer — all the vehicles you shouldn’t operate while taking medication. Looking for something sexier, less lumbering? At Speed Vegas you can zoom an exotic car (or a super kart, if that’s your jam) around a track.
1️⃣ Thing to See While You’re Out Here: If you haven’t seen “Seven Magic Mountains,” the popular and selfie-optimized desert artwork — seven stacks of Day-Glo-painted boulders — it does impart a nice brain-fizz amid the many miles of brown dirt.
2️⃣ Places to Refresh Yourself: The Blue Hawk Tavern has an extensive menu and chill atmosphere, while The M Resort has restaurants at every price point (including a bakery) and entertainment, too — in case paintball and backhoes just weren’t enough fun.
